SUMMER SEASON 2017
The tourism industry is looking forward to a positive start to the summer season. Compared to last year, an 8.4% increase is expected.
Certainly, the tourism sector was the one least negatively affected by the crisis that began in 2009. This trend solidified in 2014–2015, and although we cannot make precise predictions for this year, the outlook is consistently positive.
For the Spanish Canary Islands in particular, 2016 ended with a significant profit. Fifteen million tourists visited the islands, representing a 12.6% increase over 2015. Revenue rose by 16%.
HOW ACCURATE ARE THE FORECASTS FOR 2017?
In the spring, there was already a 7.5% increase in international visitors compared to the previous year and a 3% increase in Spanish tourists.
Room capacity has also benefited, showing an increase compared to 2016 and standing at 86%.
However, the number of German tourists worldwide declined by 10.37% at the end of last year.
Countries like Greece and Egypt were particularly affected. For precisely this reason, measures have already been taken to get the market in these countries back on track.
As things stand, 2017 will be the best year since the economic crisis.
