IN MANY VACATION HOTELS, FOOD SERVICE IS OFTEN DIVIDED INTO TWO SHIFTS.
IS THE FOOD SERVICE IN VACATION HOTELS AND RESORTS IMPORTANT?
At a time when even minor issues can easily lead to negative comments on social media and cast our service—and our entire hotel—in a negative light, our dining offerings are crucial for setting a positive course for the future.
In many cases, meals at vacation hotels are divided into two categories: “all-inclusive” and “half-board.”
How are these two different from each other?
HALF-BOARD AT VACATION HOTELS
A large majority of people who stay at a hotel choose half-board.
In general, half-board offers more advantages than disadvantages for hotels. This way, guests stay in our restaurant or on the premises instead of eating out.
With the half-board option, guests can be offered several choices. For example, breakfast and dinner, or lunch and dinner. While this keeps costs low, it often tempts guests to leave the resort for a meal and spend their money elsewhere.
ALL-INCLUSIVE AT VACATION HOTELS
The ability to offer an all-inclusive service means that guests can enjoy all their meals at the hotel. This allows us to keep guests at our resort longer, but it also requires additional staff.
THE IMPORTANCE OF FOOD AND BEVERAGE SERVICES IN HOTELS
If we recognize the importance of meals at the hotel, we will prioritize them and understand the need that dining services fulfill for our guests.
This is clearly reflected in the TrevPaG metric. This metric measures total revenue per guest present.
These are some of the advantages that a vacation hotel with dining options can offer:
- Higher Revenue: Although labor and food costs will initially rise, guest satisfaction will quickly be reflected in revenue.
- Greater guest satisfaction: And although not all hotels choose to offer dining facilities, statistically, guest satisfaction does increase with the provision of food and beverage services. There’s no point in offering the most comfortable rooms if guests have no place to eat.
- Greater appeal to potential customers: A hotel equipped with a full range of services can offer guests more and thus set itself apart from competitors, including in terms of cuisine.
Given the points mentioned above, it is essential that we provide dining options for our guests at our properties and, in doing so, attract new guests to our offerings.
