Adult Hotels on the Rise

Adult hotels (for adults only) have become increasingly popular around the world. They originated in Spain as a way for couples to enjoy themselves in peace and quiet, with an emphasis on luxury and relaxation.

CHILD-FREE HOTELS: THE KEY CRITERIA

Statistically speaking, this type of hotel has multiplied in recent years. Adult-only hotels are popping up everywhere like mushrooms. It all began in the 1970s as a kind of honeymoon hotel. The Caribbean and parts of Europe, in particular, have a magical appeal for this type of tourist.

This model has evolved significantly in the Caribbean. In Europe, we find it particularly in Spain and Croatia. Asia is also following this concept, notably on the island of Bali. Some hotel chains are also trying to offer this type of service by providing special adult-only areas within their regular hotels. This includes separate swimming pools, private beach sections, whirlpools in the double rooms, or VIP access to special areas.

ALL INCLUSIVE: A CHOICE TO MAKE GUESTS FEEL AT HOME

This model was developed to offer discerning guests everything they could wish for: the same comfort as staying at home, but with similar amenities to a luxury resort. Those who stay in these hotels and choose this type of vacation are typically between 30 and 50 years old and have a combined annual income exceeding €60,000.

This isn’t just about accommodation; it’s about a whole new hotel experience. Customers who book this service want a personalized trip, tailored precisely to their needs. It is estimated that there are now over 140 adults-only hotels in Southern Europe. Of these, 74 are in Spain—74 in the Balearic Islands alone, 30 in the Canary Islands, and 20 more on the mainland. In total, there are said to be about 600 hotels worldwide that focus exclusively on the adults-only market. The majority of these properties are very small, elegant, and lavishly appointed. The goal, then, is to provide an experience of the highest caliber.
